MARCUS GARVEY
DAY 2026
Earth Seed, Home Of The AncesTree
The AncesTree
Marcus Garvey’s Earthday is special every year — but this year, we’re taking it to a whole other level. For our 3rd Annual Marcus Garvey Day, we’re bringing it home — to our own land, deep in the Aburi mountains, high above the city’s smog, under what we call the AncesTree.
This year, we unveil a tree that overlooks all the trees in Ghana — a living elder standing for over 500 years. Let that sit with you. This tree was already ancient when our ancestors were taken from this soil. It was a source of strength and respite for them then, and today it stands as living proof of our will not just to survive, but to thrive on the land of our forefathers.
This tree, and the grounds on which it stands, are sacred.
In protecting it from loggers — while opening it to fellow tree-lovers and truth-seekers — we built a space befitting its reverence: one dedicated to the veneration of our Ancestors. Plural, because after this event, we’ll continue honoring other great Ancestors here. That is why we call it the AncesTree.
What To Expect
We’re about nation-building, so we foster family-friendly spaces with activities for all ages. Our hidden agenda? To create an atmosphere that will give nourishment to our malnourished souls.
The grounds are vast — allowing for sections dedicated to chess, arts & crafts, martial arts, archery, ping pong, hammocking, storytelling circles, drumming, and of course — dancing. Be prepared to shed your shoes and do some grounding as well.
Ital food, fresh juices, coconut water, and pastries will be on sale — along with handcrafted goods from a variety of talented local artisans.
Best of all, Tony Roots Sound will be keeping the irations with the vibrations.
Come hungry, leave full — in body and spirit.
What Not To Expect
Our gathering will be speech-free and preach-free. This is not school. This is not church. You do the talking — catching up with loved ones, making new loved ones, or networking.
There is no entry fee because people from within our community stepped forward and subsidized the costs. They agreed that you can’t put a price on a gathering like this.
Vending
Our events consistently present a unique opportunity to feature your brand or services before conscious consumers who value quality, originality, and purpose. This year, given the nature of our new gathering grounds, we’re hand-selecting our vendors to ensure the right fit for the frequency we’re setting.
If you believe you have something special to offer, reach out to us on WhatsApp — and include a link to your website, Instagram, or Facebook page so we can get a feel for what you bring.
A quick note before you reach out: we don’t recognize a plain ‘Hi’ as a message, and certainly ignore it. Please include your name and let us know you’re interested in vending, so we know exactly how to respond. Thank you.
Directions
By Car:
Search The AncesTree in Google map or click this link: VRGG+JH, Aburi
Note:
We’re 2 km in from the main road. The road is decent, but you will need to drive cautiously as there are a couple rough patches.
Tro-Tro:
Take Koforidua car from Medina station. Get down at School Junction, Ahwerase. Cross the street and catch a car to Earth Seed. (10 GHS)
Uber/Bolt/Yango:
Not reliable in these parts.
Parking Made Easy
- 10–15 spaces available next to the gathering grounds for the vendors.
- A spacious parking area is just a 5-minute walk away, on an old country road.
Dress For The Bush
We’re gathering among the trees, and the bush has its own residents — chief among them is the tiny sand-fly (what the science books call no-see-ums) that gets busy especially at dusk. Small in size, big in bite, and not something we can control — only something we can prepare for. Dressing wisely will go a long way toward keeping your day comfortable, so come ready:
- Long-sleeve Shirts | Long Pants | Long Skirts | Garden Gloves
- Gideon Boots | Sneakers (no sandals)
- Torch Light
Weather Contingency
Some of you remember last year — the sky opened up and reminded us who’s really in charge. We’re calling for sunshine this year, but nature has her own plans, and we plan around them.
In the event of heavy rainfall, the gathering will shift to Monday, August 17th. Updates will be posted on this website — or, if you’d like to be kept in the loop directly, drop your name in a message and we’ll add you to a WhatsApp group where you’ll get real-time updates.
The AncesTree isn’t going anywhere, and neither are we.
Again, our team is type-particular: we don’t recognize ‘Hi’ or ‘Greetings’ as a message. Go all in or don’t bother. Give us your name and let us know you’d like to join the updates group, so we can add you without delay. Appreciate it.
Marcus Garvey Day 2025
The Seed Was Planted. The Tree Is Growing.
What started as a seed is becoming a tradition. August 16th, we gather again to celebrate the vision of the Honorable Marcus Mosiah Garvey — with roots music, Ital food, family, and the kind of energy that stays with you long after the day ends. If this speaks to you, it's because it was meant for you. See you soon.
